How do I set task due dates?

Every task can have a due date, and ComplyBar can calculate it for you so you don't have to reset dates by hand each period. You set due dates in the Scheduling section when you create or edit a task. As you choose options, a live "Computed due date" preview shows exactly when the task will land.

Start by picking a Due date type. There are five:

  • Period date offset — a number of business days from a date in the period. You also choose a Basis for the count: from period start, from period end (the fiscal month-end), from close start (the first working day after period end), or from close end (your target close date). For example, "3 business days from close start." Use 0 for the basis date itself, or a negative number to land before it.
  • Calendar Date — a specific day of the month in the month your close work happens (the month after the period starts). For example, the 10th.
  • Milestone Offset — a number of business days from a milestone's date. Pick the milestone and the offset; the date fills in once the milestone has a date.
  • Dependency Offset — a number of business days after a predecessor task is completed. Pick the predecessor task and the offset; the date stays blank until that task is marked complete, then fills in automatically.
  • Manual Date — a fixed calendar date that never changes, for one-off tasks or externally imposed deadlines.

Holiday handling controls what happens when a calculated date lands on a weekend or holiday. The options are: inherit your organization's default, skip (roll past holidays while counting), roll back to the prior business day, roll forward to the next business day, or ignore (allow the date to fall on a holiday). Leave it on "Inherit org default" unless a specific task needs different treatment.

The advantage of the calculated types is that they stay correct on their own. When your period dates change, the holiday calendar is updated, a milestone date moves, or a predecessor task is completed, ComplyBar recomputes the affected due dates automatically — so you configure the rule once and it holds every month. Your organization's default holiday handling and holiday calendar are managed in Company Settings.

You can also set all of these fields when bulk-importing tasks from Excel or CSV — the template includes Due Date Type, Due Date Value, Due Date Basis, and Holiday Handling columns.
