What the Teams tab does
The ComplyBar Teams tab embeds the full ComplyBar application inside a Microsoft Teams channel tab. Team members with an M365 account are signed in automatically via Microsoft SSO — no separate password needed.
Prerequisites
- A ComplyBar account (Owner or Admin role to download the manifest).
- Microsoft 365 with Microsoft Teams.
- Permission to upload a custom app to your Teams tenant. This is typically a Teams Administrator or Global Administrator role in the Microsoft 365 admin center. If you don't have this permission, ask your IT administrator.
Before you deploy — set up your team first
Every team member must have a ComplyBar account before they can open the Teams tab. When someone opens the tab, ComplyBar checks whether their work email matches an existing account. If it does not, they cannot access the app — they will see a sign-in prompt with no way to self-register.
We recommend completing these steps before uploading the manifest to Teams:
- Go to Company Settings → Team Members and add all team members. Use the bulk import to add many people at once. By default, no invitation emails are sent during import, so your team won't be notified until you're ready.
- Set up your close period, task list, and any other configuration you need.
- Upload the manifest to Teams (steps below) and verify the tab works for your own account.
- When everything is ready, send invitation emails from Company Settings → Team Members or re-import with “Send invitation emails” checked, then announce the Teams tab to your team.
Step 1 — Download the manifest
In ComplyBar, go to Company Settings → MS Teams and click Download Teams manifest. This downloads a complybar-teams-manifest.zip file containing the app package Microsoft Teams requires.
You can also download the manifest during onboarding from the Microsoft Teams step in the setup wizard.
Step 2 — Upload the app to Microsoft Teams
There are two ways to upload the manifest depending on your Teams setup:
Option A — Upload for your organization (recommended)
This makes the app available to everyone in your M365 tenant through the Teams app store.
- Go to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
- Navigate to Teams apps → Manage apps → Upload new app.
- Upload the
complybar-teams-manifest.zipfile. - Once uploaded, find ComplyBar in the app list, set its status to Allowed, and optionally pin it for your users.
Option B — Sideload for a single team
If your tenant allows sideloading, you can add the app directly to a specific team without going through the admin center.
- Open Microsoft Teams and go to the channel you want to add ComplyBar to.
- Click + (Add a tab) → More apps → Upload a custom app.
- Upload the
complybar-teams-manifest.zipfile. - Follow the prompts to add the tab to your channel.
How sign-in works
When a team member opens the ComplyBar tab inside Teams, ComplyBar detects their Microsoft 365 work account and signs them in automatically — no password prompt needed. This works as long as their work email matches an existing ComplyBar account.
If their work email does not match any ComplyBar account, they will see a sign-in screen but will not be able to access the organisation — there is no self-registration. An Owner or Admin must add them to ComplyBar first (see Before you deploy above).
Troubleshooting
The tab shows a sign-in screen but the user cannot access the app
The user's work email does not match any ComplyBar account. An Owner or Admin must add them in Company Settings → Team Members first. Once their account exists, they can close and reopen the tab — no further action is needed on their end.
Teams says the app could not be uploaded
Your tenant may have custom app uploading disabled. A Teams or Global Administrator needs to enable it in the Teams admin center under Teams apps → Setup policies → allow uploading custom apps.
The manifest download button is not visible
Only users with the Owner or Admin role in ComplyBar can download the manifest. Contact your ComplyBar org admin.
I need to re-download the manifest
You can download an updated manifest at any time from Company Settings → MS Teams. Re-upload it to Teams following the same steps above to apply any changes.
